What is FLL Jr. ?
Each year, FIRST LEGO League Jr. presents a new and exciting Challenge to ignite the creativity of children age 6 to 9. While exploring the real-world theme, teams will use basic engineering concepts to build a model made of LEGO®elements. They will also learn to present information through a Show Me Poster. Throughout their experience, teams will operate under the FIRST LEGO League Jr. Core Values, celebrating discovery, teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism®.

fCoaching a Junior FIRST Lego League Team

Ages: 6 years to 9 or 10 years year’s (Depends on the child’s maturity)
Equipment:
WeDo 2.0 Kit from Lego Education: https://education.lego.com/en-us/support/wedo-2
The WeDo kit can run on a Personal Computer or a Tablet. You can check with Lego to see if they are compatible. I have used a Samsun Tablet with success. The details for the tablet information can be found at the Lego Education site.
The WeDo kit is a Lego product and is compatible with other Lego kits. If you wish to add pieces to your WeDo kit they can be used. I would recommend you keep track of any extra pieces you add to your WeDo kit. I would recommend it only comes from one person so that separating pieces at the end of the season is easier.
Note: that the tablet can be difficult for younger kids to manipulate. For kids this age we recommend 2 kids per WeDo kit. This allows for the most hands on experience with the equipment. If you have 1 kit this would be for 2 kids, if you have 4 kids on your team you would want two kits.
The program is self - explanatory and has step by step instructions. No experience is necessary and it is very entertaining. For kids 5-7 years of age practice length can be 60 minutes at a time. For kids 7-10 years practice for 60 to 90 minutes seems to work well. Coaches can determine what their team is able to handle as they get to know them.
